Coming from a family with deep roots in theatre and cinema, Shubha Khote was bound to end up in the movies. Her father Nandu Khote was a a noted theatre and silent movie actor and her aunt, Durga Khote, was a prominent movie actress. During her college days, she was very good at sport, mainly swimming and cycling. Her photos were featured in newspapers and magazines, where she was spotted by director Amiya Chakravarty. Shubha Khote has been a very popular actress though she played character roles, almost always with a comic streak. Also she was one of the few supporting actresses to have songs, both solos and duets, picturized on her.. that were not item numbers.
