Bromance

Bromance in Bollywood movies has always been a big thing.. Where friends pledge their lives for friends… and in most cases the female lead’s entry would cause the pact to be broken! Dosti has been the theme for many movies with many songs dedicated to friendship. Surprisingly, very few movies feature friendship amongst women.. its always the men who sing songs and make promises about friendship.

FiveSongs – Duets on bromance (Yaari/Dosti etc)

#1 Song: Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi
Singers: Kishore Kumar & Manna Dey
Year: 1975
Movie: Sholay
Director: Ramesh Sippy
Lyricist: Anand Bakshi
Composer: R. D. Burman
When you think of Dosti songs this one is sure to feature.. Jai & Veeru are two of the most well-known characters in Hindi movies. Amitabh Bachchan & Dharmendra perform antics on their motorcycle & sidecar in this one.

#2 Song: Bane Chahe Dushman
Year: 1980
Movie: Dostana
Director: Raj Khosla
Singers: Kishore Kumar & Mohammad Rafi
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Composer: Laxmikant Pyarelal
Though this song is about friends & friendship, it is rumoured that both the actors weren’t on talking terms when this song was picturized. In the movie, the heroine (Zeenat Aman) was the reason for the discord between friends.

#3 Song: Qurbani Qurbani Qurbani
Singers: Anwar, Aziz Naza & Kishore Kumar
Year: 1980
Movie: Qurbani
Director: Feroz Khan
Lyrics: Farooq Qaizer
Composer: Kalyanji Anandji
Feroz Khan’s movies always exuded a flamboyance rarely seen in Bollywood. Here too, swords clash in a song about sacrifice for friends, while the policeman (Amjad Khan) pursuing the friends, looks on.

#4 Song: Saat Ajoobe Is Duniya
Singers: Mohammad Rafi & Mukesh
Year: 1977
Movie: Dharam Veer
Director: Manmohan Desai
Lyricist: Anand Bakshi
Composer: Laxmikant Pyarelal
Dharmendra’s short skirts made this movie more popular than either of the two heriones in it. The quintessential hindi formula movie of twin brothers separated at birth, who grow up and become friends, set in a fictional kingdom.

#5 Song: Aye Yaar Sun
Singer: Kishore Kumar, Shailendra Singh & Asha Bhonsale
Year: 1979
Movie: Suhaag
Director: Manmohan Desai
Lyricist: Anand Bakshi
Composer: Laxmikant Pyarelal
Again a movie with a similar formula as the previous one.. twins separated at birth, on either side of the law.. become close friends. One (Shashi Kapoor) loses his eyesight, so the other lets him ride a bike to prove his “Dosti“.
